YVote is looking for partners to aid in the expansion of our first-of-its-kind Democracy Camp.

Ideal partners are youth serving organizations interested in augmenting existing summer programming to include civic engagement, cross-partisan dialogue, and democracy education. The Democracy Camp curriculum is designed to be youth-led, so organizations with experience supporting and facilitating youth leadership will be given preference. 

What is Democracy Camp?

Democracy Camp is a week-long experiential summer learning intensive for high school students culminating in student-designed and -led Democracy Projects implemented over the course of the following school year. Democracy Camp teaches the history of democracy in the US and encourages students to think critically about how its original promises diverge from current realities. Taking an action-oriented approach, our curriculum encourages students to reconnect with America’s social contract and identify roles they can play in bolstering our democracy.

Our youth facilitators encourage campers to see themselves as agents of democracy as they plan and execute Democracy Projects to manifest the macro-ideas of democracy at the micro-level of their schools or communities. Democracy Camp is a launching pad for a year-long – and hopefully a lifelong –engagement in civic participation with ripples felt far beyond campers themselves.

After the success we’ve seen with Camp the last two summers, we’re eager to expand and share this opportunity with a broader range of students. We are looking to identify and engage with youth serving organizations eager to add or expand civic programming by implementing our Democracy Camp curriculum and youth leadership structure.
